Science Olympiad coaches

Coaching a Science Olympiad team can be a rewarding experience. Please consider helping an existing team or starting a new one at your school.

Science Olympiad Team Coaches

  • Each Science Olympiad team has one or more coaches
  • These people organize the competitors on a team, recruit parent volunteers, and coordinate resources for the team
  • Team coaches register the team and manage tournament paperwork
    • They are the primary point of contact between teams and Oregon Science Olympiad

School-Sponsored Organization

  • To participate in Science Olympiad and attend tournaments, teams must be school-sponsored organizations in the manner of other clubs at the school
    • This is a clarification of a longstanding policy from the national Science Olympiad organization
  • The Head Coach must be a school/district staff member or an approved volunteer
  • The school should take an active role with the team in aspects such as:
    • Competitor recruitment and selection
    • Access to resources (supplies, funding, room to practice)
    • Tournament permission and transportation
